unit 10 sound to moving image - video clips

BBC Three ident - https://www.youtube.com/edit?o=U&video_id=gj48Hv-rgKM

after watching the clip and decided how i wanted the piece of music started it off with some nice/groovy chords with a little reverb with nice smooth percussion and a disk scratch to give the music a little more punch. making a more relaxed vibe for the ident will help because BBC THREE was typically identified as more of a late night channel and would be less likely to appeal to young viewers who would more than likely want to listen to something upbeat. composing music for a short ident and composing a track are both similar in some aspects. short films the music must match what the video represents to give of the feel of the clip.

cbeebies ident - https://www.youtube.com/edit?o=U&video_id=A7pxCxG8kHQ

after watching the clip for the CBeebies ident and a few others similar to it i decided that it doesn't need to be anything rhythmic because this show would apply to young children and they wont be paying attention the musical side of the video.the video its supposed to be fun with the blobs floating around so i thought putting something happy to play alongside the clip will work nicely giving it more of an underwater feel to it.

Channel 4 ident - https://www.youtube.com/edit?o=U&video_id=Rt3y9TFT8ik

i watched the Channel 4 clip and thought that it would be aimed at a more mature audience and its something nice to see before their favourite show is about to start. i gave the piece of music a heavily automated vibe with low drums  so its not to much to listen to but still nice and relaxing to hear.

martial arts video - https://www.youtube.com/edit?o=U&video_id=4sj9Sv-YKSY

after watching the video and noticing all the little slow motions parts of the track i went for a oriental feel and slowly transferring into something more like light rock giving the video a lot more suspense . having the slow motion and close ups gave it a bigger feel when using the sound effects to create switches between the scenes like making small "swooshing" sound and little fight shouts. my aim was to keep the viewer watching until the end and i feel like i have done as much as i can to keep the viewer entertained

the Commuter trailer - https://youtu.be/JyszHC3U86c

i watched the original trailer to get the feel to what the mood should be like and i started with trying to figure out the tempo of the video using the hit points that trigger on certain points of the clips where something happens. SMPTE (Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers) time code hit points are specified as hh:mm:ss:dd (hours minutes, seconds and hundredths of seconds). once you figure out the original tempo you can use the SPMTIE to adjust the tempo to how you want it while staying at the same point in time. I worked out that the tempo i was going to use was 98 BPM and kept the original theme of it being more orchestral and dramatic by using elements of strings, using timpani and then changing to a full kit to give the film more suspense. all the sounds effects give the video a lot more kick to it by hearing explosions/fight scenes/police sirens/  voices  etc. i have the drums to be used more like accents not grooves, this gives it the extra feel it needs to sound more dramatic, although there are slight drum patterns but not enough for you to focus on them as musically as you would to a song. having the high notes playing in the back keeps the pulse from going out and the viewer getting bored half way through
